Sailing Education

Class.gif (14649 bytes) Sailing in Seattle offers a complete range of sailing instruction from basic keelboat sailing to racing.
  • All Instruction is hands-on and is done aboard WHOODAT, a fully equipped and well-maintained Tartan 33.  We teach with your learning style, background and goals in mind. 
  • Instructor has over thirty years sailing, racing, and teaching experience and is an American Sailing Association certified instructor.
  • All our course content and methods meet or exceed American Sailing Association standards.
  • Scheduling is tailored to the interests, skill level, and time availability of the individual student.

Introduction to Sailing:  Designed to expose the new sailor to the principles and enjoyment of sailing, this on-the-water short course will build basic skills and have you driving and crewing the boat.  The focus is on safety and enjoyment of sailing.   Can be done on your boat or ours.  Includes one copy of Sailing Fundamentals, by Gary Jobson.

Basic Keelboat Sailing for Mountaineers Sailors.
Building on the skill and experience of the Mountaineers Sailing Program, this course teaches skills necessary to safely skipper a sailboat around 25 feet in light to moderate seas and winds in familiar waters without supervision. Ideal for individuals, couples, families and groups.  This course meets or exceeds the requirements for the American Sailing Association Basic Keelboat Certification and will fully prepare the student for taking the ASA Challenge exam and obtaining ASA Certification.  ASA processing is not provided by Sailing in Seattle but can be obtained at a reasonable cost through several local sailing organizations.
Prerequisite: Listing on the Mountaineers Crew Roster

Basic Keelboat Sailing
This course teaches skills necessary to safely skipper a sailboat around 25 feet in light to moderate seas and winds in familiar waters without supervision. Ideal for individuals, couples, families and groups. This course meets or exceeds the requirements for the American Sailing Association Basic Keelboat Certification and includes ASA testing and certification.

Sailing Your Boat
This course teaches skills necessary to safely skipper your sailboat in light to moderate seas and winds in familiar waters without supervision. This course meets or exceeds the requirements for the American Sailing Association Basic Keelboat Certification.  This course is taught aboard your boat.
