Other Resources

Many of our friends ask about ways of doing more sailing, participating in races, instructional alternatives, extended cruises, and other information about sailing activities we may not be able to undertake at Sailing in Seattle.  This page is intended to serve as a resource to direct you to other resources here in Seattle.

Can you recommend a sailing club or place to take lessons where I can use their boats?
Yes.  We are quite familiar with the Island Sailing Club located in Kirkland, Tacoma, and Portland.  They have an excellent club and ASA teaching program that is quite competitively priced.  The quality of their instruction is outstanding.  They are rated as a Gold Standard teaching facility by the American Sailing Association.

When is Sunset in Seattle?
Sunrise and sunset for Seattle, WA can be found by clicking here.

How do I get on a racing crew?
We'd suggest you contact Corinthian Yacht Club or Seattle Yacht Club and get on their Crew Roster.  Both of these clubs maintain Crew Looking for Boats and Boats Looking for Crew rosters.  For the more adventurous, consider spending all or part of a week at Whidbey Race Week.  Boats there are always looking for crew, often with no experience required.  Another excellent resource is 48 Degrees North, a local publication that has EVERYTHING about the local sailing scene.  Free at any local marine store, or boat sales company.

I want to take an extended cruise around Puget Sound (or beyond)
Check out Bluewater Cruises  (email to bluewateryachtcharters@msn.com) for bareboat or skippered cruises.

How can I find out about the Seattle sailing scene?
Checkout the Mountaineers Sailing Program, Seattle Women's Sailing Association, Seattle Singles Yacht Club, 48 Degrees North and the book Boatless in Seattle.  You will meet a lot of interesting people who will be able to point you in the right direction.

I just want to rent a boat for the afternoon
Checkout the Center for Wooden boats.  If you have some experience it is possible to rent their vessels at a reasonable rate and have the benefit of supporting a great local organization.

I want to learn more about the U.S. Coast Guard and how it is involved in boating safety
Checkout our District 13 U.S. Coast Guard website for lots of very useful information and informative material including Boating Safety, Aids to Navigation, Licensing, Local Notice to Mariners, Marine Permits, Marine Safety, Vessel Documentation, Oregon/Washington River Bar Information, Fishing Vessel Safety, and State Boating websites.
